Yeah, so I said I was going to get back to blogging. That's what I said anyway. And then this kind of really cool thing happened. I've been working since May on a fanfiction story based on the TV show "Emergency!". It was my favorite show as a kid, and inspired me to later get into rescue work. Although I'm not active in EMS anymore, it's still something I'm passionate about, as are other themes I'm exploring in this story.
Right away I was surprised by the response I got. Praise, which is always nice, for my writing in general was a real treat. But the real surprise came with the intensely emotional response the main topics of the story (marriage, divorce, infidelity) seemed to bring out in my readers. So many of them left me reviews and messages in which they shared personal experiences.
Because of every one's input, the story grew into so much more than I originally intended. It's brought me an enormous amount of joy, and really has recharged my passion for writing. I've also met two other like-minded writers with whom I've become good friends.
Another surprising and delightful side effect of this is that it's opened some unexpected doors for me. Opportunities like the chance to get my arts degree in writing, and the chance to collaborate with someone whose work I really admire on my very first stage script are just a few of the good things that have happened.
Another gift, and perhaps the most precious one, this experience has brought me is healing. Within the story I've been able to explore issues from my own life and resolve them in my own understanding. Not only that, but the validation of my work has done wonders for my confidence, and inspired me. At the risk of sounding cliche, it's changed everything.
So, alas blogging may really take a backseat for a while. If you'd like to give the story a gander, it's called "If I Needed You" and can be found here. It's long and still a work in progress, but feedback and reviews are welcome.
Hopefully, more blog posts will be coming soon!
